SHR’s Resignation, Leave & Secondment Procedure
As a Safety and Health Representative (SHR) EduSafe request that the following procedures be followed to ensure that we are kept up to date with changes to coverage, records and allowance payments. Basically Edusafe request that you:
- Discuss changes to your SHR duties with your manager, supervisor or Head of School;
- Notify Edusafe so that we can update our records;
- Ensure that colleagues are consulted to find an eager replacement!
Resignation
- Notify EduSafe via email of your intention to resign, the email must include the following details:
- Ensure you give an end date for SHR duties;
- Managers name and contact details (this will assist us to find a replacement where necessary).
- Notify your manager;
- Canvas for a replacement SHR;
- Give as much notice as possible, minimum 4 weeks;
- Complete workplace inspections and finalised any investigations.
Leave (long service, sick, maternity for example)
Discuss with your manager/head of School about your position as SHR. Your department pay for your allowance therefore the decision as to whether you are still paid is up to them. For example an extended holiday of 4 weeks will not affect your position as a SHR. But leaving the University for significant periods of time (2 months or more) may require assistance from other departments and their reps.
- Discuss your intentions with your manager and how this will impact on your SHR duties;
- Notify EduSafe with start – end date of leave;
- Consider a replacement where necessary and notify us (if an extended period of leave).
Secondment
- Notify your manager / Head of school where appropriate;
- Notify EduSafe of the:
- Final date of SHR duties:
- Managers name and contact details (this will assist us to find a replacement where necessary.
- Canvas for a replacement and notify EduSafe of the person/s elected into that position:
- Complete workplace inspections and finalise any investigations;
- Consider if your SHR duties will be required where you are moving to for example you may be able to negotiate for your SHR allowance to be transferred to your new department. Whatever the outcome you must notify Edusafe so that we can maintain our records and areas of coverage.
