INSTITUTIONAL
BIOSAFETY COMMITTEE
This is a sub-committee
of the Occupational Safety and Health Policy Committee, which is
advisory to the Pro ViceChancellor, Academic Services. The
committee is primarily responsible for ensuring compliance with
the Gene Technology Act and Regulations 2000.
Terms of Reference
-
To advise on the development and implementation
of safe conditions and procedures in situations which involve
potentially hazardous micro-organisms, cells and products and
the use of genetically modified organisms.

To administer all of the requirements of
the Institutional BioSafety Committee as prescribed by the Gene
Technology Act 2000 on behalf of Curtin University of Technology
and associated bodies
-
To advise on legislative requirements for
the handling of biologically hazardous material.
- To provide a point of reference and referral on all matters
related to biologically hazardous materials.

The Chair shall be
appointed by the Pro Vice Chancellor, Academic Services
Conflict
of Interest
The Office of the Gene
Technology Regulator requires that for Curtin to be and remain an
accredited organisation, the IBC must have an arrangement inplace
to deal with conflict
of interest.
