Labelling

Reading Labels

Reading the label on containers is the first step in getting health and safety information on the chemicals used in your workplace.  Hence it is essential that all containers that hold hazardous substances are appropriately labelled.  This includes decanted substances that are not used immediately.

Labelling Requirements

The minimum legal standards for labelling have been summarised in the following:

Guidance Note for Labelling Compliance

How do I obtain compliant labels?

In most cases the simplest method to produce compliant labels is to print them from Chem Alert.

Unfortunately it can be difficult to achieve labelling compliance where you create new products.  In such circumstances, the following Label template has been provided to assist you.  This template has been designed to use Impega self-adhesive labels (product code 143.355) that can be obtained from the University's preferred stationary supplier, Lyreco.

For full detail on the requirements for labelling compliance refer to the following National Code of Practice for the Labelling of Workplace Substances.
